Regarding Bill 9: Currently I have until 2030 to rent out my condo as it is in South Maui. On Dec. 29, 2025 attorneys filed a class action lawsuit representing owners on the Minatoya List (short term vacation rentals) against Maui County. They are seeking preliminary and permanent injunctive relief. It could be a few years before a verdict. On Oahu, they also tried to stop short term rentals. Lawsuits were filed, and stopped that. Short term rental are now allowed on Oahu. They expect the same thing to happen here on Maui when Bill 9 is overturned.
Since 2005, we have been a legally licensed, South Maui, short term vacation rental in Maalaea. Besides this personal website, and mauiownercondos.com (both owner direct), so no booking fees, I have our condo on VRBO. If you book on their site, they do charge a booking fee + taxes. Our direct booking site charges no booking fees. My license # is TA/GE-052-562-5344-01. All the amenities our condo offers (and details on them), are listed down below the following description.

Welcome to our 2 bedroom, 2 bath, "15 Steps To The Shore", ground floor, South Maui, beach, ocean front condo located at the Kanai A Nalu, in Maalaea. If you visit my condo during whale watching season (Nov - Apr), have the thrill of seeing them breaching out in the bay from our direct Ocean front lanai. It's an unbelievable experience. Watch the sun rise over Haleakala with a cup of coffee, or welcome the sunset with a glass of wine while relaxing on the lanai. The living room has a queen sized sleeper sofa with a comfortable memory foam mattress. The condo sleeps six, plus a baby in our crib.
The dining table seats 6 and for little ones, there is a booster seat or a high chair. We have drawers of games and activities, sand toys, a stroller, baby gate and a pack-n-play. I have three grown children and seven grandchildren, so families with kiddos are welcome.
There is central air conditioning in the living/dining room, the main bedroom and the 2nd bedroom. Each room has it's own Smart Roku TV, for watching Netflix, Prime Video and other streaming services, plus three DVD / Blu-ray players. We have an assortment of DVDs.
Six ceiling fans, one in each room, including the bathrooms add to your comfort. The bathrooms have wall mounted hair dryers, designer towels, toiletries, hand held shower heads and, there's a bathtub for the little ones. The main bathroom has an oversized walk/roll-in shower that can accommodate a wheelchair. Lanai is level with the lawn; easy roll-off. Unit is wheelchair accessible, but not ADA compliant.
The main bedroom has a "Select Comfort" King size bed with digital remotes to adjust the firmness or softness on each side. There's a Smart TV, large closet and amazing views.
The 2nd bedroom has a Smart TV, central air and twins that can be made into a 2nd King. There are views of the pool, not of the noisy parking lot, where people walk by and can look in the unit.
The kitchen has upgraded appliances with a digital washer and dryer, dishwasher, a glass top stove and turn-table microwave. The double door fridge has filtered water and ice.

There's a solar heated pool, oceanside shower and stainless steel BBQ's all on 2 1/2 acres of lovely tropical grounds with orchids, banana and plumeria trees. Our original beach (in front of our complex) now has less sand, and more rocks due to sea level rise. We do get some beach back in summer. See photos below, taken in front of Kanai A Nalu, Aug, 2025. But, just steps away, is the popular and "always sandy" Sugar Beach. It starts in front of the complex next door. Sugar Beach, is the longest beach on Maui. Please see all of our photos of this lovely beach.
It has soft white sand, and most of the year, calm waters where you can snorkel and see the Hono turtles (please keep required legal distance). Every year they lay their eggs along this beach. We have snorkel gear, beach towels, boogie boards, swim noodles, beach chairs, ice chests more.
Our location is perfect. Maalaea is located in South Maui, halfway between each end of the island. It is a quiet area without the crowds of West Maui. We’re only 15 minutes from the airport, 10 minutes from Kihei, 15 minutes from the charming town of Paia (reminiscent of a little Lahaina), 15 minutes from prehistoric-looking Iao Valley, 18 minutes from Wailea for a luau and 20 minutes to upcountry for wine tasking, amazing restaurants, galleries' and shops.
Maalaea Harbor, just 1/4 mile away.
Sadly, Lahaina's harbor still has not been rebuilt which has curtailed ocean activities from that location. My condo is just 1/4 mile from Maalaea Harbor, offering easy access to fun ocean adventures. At the harbor, book a whale-watching tour with the Pacific Whale Foundation, explore marine life on a snorkeling excursion, or indulge in a sunset, dinner cruise.
At the harbor is 4-star dining, Hawaiian themed shops, jewelry, clothing, hand crafted items, a night club, an ice cream parlor and the renowned Maui Ocean Center — Maui’s top attraction.

You can read our many reviews to learn what prior guests thought of their time at our condo and the complex. We have over 150 listed on this site, and over 250 on our VRBO site. We've added lots of amenities for our guests. Free parking is just steps from the entrance of the condo.
We do not charge a booking fee. If you pay with a credit card, there is a 3.2% convenience fee. Or you can pay with a check (U.S. dollars) for no fee. There is a form for a quote which will have the cleaning fee and taxes included so you can see the total cost before you book. Please use the form located on the "Calendar/rate" page. Our current nightly rates are shown on the calendar. There is a cleaning fee, currently $305 which is set by the cleaning company. Since our unit is two bedrooms and two baths, plus ground floor (sand tracked in) it might be a little higher than other units. Currently the Hawaiian taxes are 18.712%, which are not shown with with nightly rate. Our nightly rate is often adjusted due to discounting or changes due to demand. Rates and costs can adjust until the condo is confirmed as booked.

When booking the Christmas holiday, there is a 14-NIGHT MINIMUM. If requesting less than 14 nights, we will edit your booking making it 14 nights. You can either approve the 14 night booking, or cancel it. For Thanksgiving, it is a minimum stay of 7 nights. See our "Policies" for details.

I apologize, my description is long. A Maui vacation is expensive. To help with your decision, I've added lots of photos and details. My condo is very personal to me. It's a relaxing retreat, where I've added plenty of amenities for my guests, and their children.
Most people picture in their minds their dream vacation, directly on a beach in summer, with magnificent sunrises, romantic sunsets, and being lulled to sleep by the sound of the waves.
My ground floor, ocean front, corner condo could fulfill that dream. When you walk in, the view of the ocean from the living room is awesome. When you go outside, the spectacular 180° views will take your breath away. Every morning, relax on the lanai watching the sun come up over Haleakala and turtles popping up in the waves.
My condo is at the highly rated, ocean/beach front, Kanai A Nalu. On over 2 acres with an oceanside shower, solar heated pool, pool-side eating area and commercial BBQs.
In winter when our beach is rocky, it's just a 1-minute walk to the "always sandy" SUGAR BEACH, the longest beach on Maui. If you visit my condo during whale watching season (Nov - Apr), experience the thrill of seeing them breaching out in the bay from our ocean front lanai. It's a truly unforgettable experience.
With our unit being ground floor, you don't have to walk up and down stairs multiple times a day to go to the beach, use the pool, or the BBQ's. And you don't have to carry luggage to the back of the complex, for the elevator.
Our condo has a "relaxed", tropical island feel with bamboo and rattan pieces. Most of the furnishings are new and a few pieces are not (but in very good condition). Those that want a contemporary, hi-end hotel-room look, can book one of the completely remodeled, modern-look units that charge more. Some without offering central air. Maui can get up to 90’s degrees, with the humidity at 80%. Central air is a must much of the year. One with built-in dehumidifiers is even better.
Some condo's main bedrooms are open to the living room with thin sliding walls, offering no insulation from the noise of others. Our main bedroom’s solid walls and locking door offers privacy and a quiet retreat. It has windows facing the shore, and the pool due, to its corner location.
The 2nd Bedroom has twins that can be converted to a king. In the living room is a Queen Sleeper sofa with a comfortable memory foam mattress.
The main bathroom has a walk-in/roll-in shower (wheelchair accessible) with convenient hand held and wall mounted shower heads. The 2nd bathroom has a full-size tub with a shower above. Both have cooling ceiling fans, new wall mounted hair dryers (leave yours at home), and "comfort height" toilets for seniors or those with bad backs.
Besides the extensive list above, amenities also include children's dishes and utensils, 2 coffee makers, (K-cups and grounds), a toaster, a new toaster oven, a Ninja blender (for smoothies), a hand blender, pots, pans, cook ware, dishes and wine glasses. At the harbor are 4-star dining, gift and specialty shops, a Starbucks, the Maalaea General store, a gas station, Maui Golf and sports (fun park) and the renowned Maui Ocean Center—Maui’s top attraction.
Our location is perfect because Maalaea is centrally located. 15 minutes from the airport or Paia (reminiscent of a little Lahaina), 10 minutes from Kihei, 20 minutes to upcountry for wine tasting, 15 minutes from the breathtaking Iao Valley, and 18 minutes from upscale Wailea, for an authentic Hawaiian luau.
The photo of our complex was taken years ago. We had a lovely beach year-round. It starting disappearing in the winter of 2020 due to the rise in sea level. In the Spring & Summer during low tide, we still have sand out front (see photos from July 2025). During winter's high tide, the beach out front is rocky.
We are very fortunate that the ALWAYS sandy "Sugar Beach" starts just beyond our seawall. During high tide, guests can reach Sugar Beach through the complex next door, past their pool (best for seniors). If the tide is low and the sand is high, younger guests can enter between our seawalls.
Also, guests can take a 5-minute stroll along the sidewalk or an 8-second drive down Hauoli Street (to the right), where the road ends at Haycraft Park. The park offers parking, restrooms, and showers. It opens onto breathtaking Sugar Beach, a pristine, 4-mile-long stretch of sand where no development is allowed.
This shoreline is a habitat for Honu (sea turtles), where they lay their eggs. You might even spot them while snorkeling - just remember to keep the required distance. Be mindful that Maalaea, like many areas of Maui, can get breezy to windy in the afternoons as the trade winds pick up.
The condo is steps from a free parking spot (regular and handicap). It has wide doorways and is wheelchair accessible, but not ADA compliant. There are no steps or stairs.
Legally licensed since 2005, Tax ID #TA/GE-052-562-5344-01. When purchased, had a tax classification as a hotel/resort.
About the Owner
I grew up in Southern California. When I was a small child, we camped on the beach (in tents) and later in trailers. I loved the beach. As an adult, I visited the Hawaiian Islands. I decided I had to one day own a beach front condo. I searched for years for just the right property. When this condo came on the market I begged, borrowed and talked my grown children into buying it with me. It didn’t take much to convince them. All they had to do was watch a Virtual Tour and they were hooked. After the purchase, we spent more money remodeling and decorating. I keep the tropical feel of the condo because that was what we fell in love with. This is a wonderful, relaxing, and inspiring place!! I can sit on the lanai and have views of the Maui coastline that goes on for miles, or I can watch the waves dance along the shore while my grandchildren play just a few feet away. It’s the Hawaii experience I saw in the movies. The experience I dreamed about. This is my piece of Paradise, that I now share with visitors to the island.
